Exporting SketchUp Files TO BLENDER! Everything You Need to Know!
You will also get a quick idea how each product functions. As an example, on this page you can see SketchUp’s overall score of 8.9 and compare it against Blender’s score of 8.6; or SketchUp’s user satisfaction level at 97% versus Blender’s 98% satisfaction score. Sketchup to Blender: aligning multiple objects to a grid. Ask Question Asked 2 years, 11 months ago. Active 2 months ago. Viewed 208 times 0 $ begingroup$. Both of Cycles & Eevee are very great built-in blender render engines. The only problem that i found is Blender doesn’t have feature to import Sketchup files. Exporting the sketchup models to.dae,.obj or other formats then import it into Blender causes some problems. But now i’ve found the solution, there is a Blender Add-Ons named.
In this video, learn how to set up your SketchUp files so that they can be imported into Blender!

Exporting your model from SketchUp to Blender for Rendering!
Note – these are pro exporters – however, I will talk about a way to do this with a free extension as well
This can be useful for a lot of things, including UV mapping, rendering, and more!
Different kinds of files give you different results.
OBJ
Exporting as OBJ – Single Individual File – can’t edit individual objects
Look at the folder it creates
Notice – textures are separate

FREE OPTION – TT Quad Face Tools has an OBJ exporter!
Collada
Export as Collada – Maintains individual objects – useful if you’re going to be doing texture editing
Explode group first – otherwise you just get a dotted line
Making dotted lines go away – clear parent relationship, or just turn off relationship lines
Note – texture mapping gets weird if your SketchUp model isn’t quad mapped

To export from Sketchup to Blender, here are the steps:
Sketchup To Blender Addon
- Prepare Sketchup files for exporting. Check the overall integrity and than group or un-group all geometry into desired, logical parts.
- Texture the model. Sketchup uses very easy and fast methods for texturing. It work well for segments which are flat, or drawn on an extruded curve. Texturing them before exporting isn't necessary but may lead to time conservation.
- Export from Sketchup. File -> Export -> 3d Model (this option is only included in Sketchup pro). Choose export type 'OBJ File'. In export options tick 'Swap YZ coordinates'. If you would like to create a folder with copies of texture images also tick 'export texture maps'.
- Import to Blender. File -> Import -> Wavefront (.obj).
- Check imported geometry. Basic hierarchy will be preserved - with 'groups' and 'components' from Sketchup recognized as Blender 'objects'. All of them will have origin point at the point of import. For static objects this may be irrelevant, but for those that will be animated it can be fixed manually or with Object -> Transform -> Origin to Geometry . This method moves the origin to the median point calculated from all vertices and is sufficient for most purposes. Materials from Sketchup will be also preserved and imported as Blender materials.
